Rain or Shine,

Northwoods Humane Society knows how to put on an animal walk

If you didn’t come to the 11th Annual Walk with the Animals, you missed a perfect day to spend with your family and furry friends.

It started out with nearly 40 volunteers putting together a day full of fun, food and excitement. After being courteously parked, your pup could get a Mani-Pedi by Bridget before beginning the events of the day.

Inside the hall you were greeted with 14 different booths full of information, products and wares from our local businesses and beyond.   Interacting with raptor birds from the Wildlife Science Center was a must see.  Getting photos of your pretty pooch at Bachman’s Photography was all part of the experience.  If you wanted to compete with the kids for a cake, you could do the cake walk or spin the wheel for some really cool prizes at the kid’s games. With close to 65 items up for silent auction and 50 prizes to win at our drawing, it was never a dull moment.

After our 3 mile hike down a winding peaceful road in Stacy, all of our 200+ walkers and their 100+ dogs and one Miniature Horse named Rosie, were able to enjoy a lunch of sloppy joes or hot dogs, sweet treats and lemonade. I am sure everyone went home with more than tired legs and a full stomach.

We were thoroughly entertained by The Twin Cities Disc Dogs who provided a fun filled demo of high flying dogs catching Frisbees in mid air, all synchronized with toe tapping tunes.

And if you thought this day was just about having fun, you were wrong. It was all about raising much needed funds to help homeless pets. Thank you to all the wonderful folks who gathered pledges and the many sponsors, contributors and volunteers who made our fundraising efforts so successful. This year we raised over $28,000 dollars to help care for the homeless animals at Northwoods Humane Society.
